What Is Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

You might ask what is search engine marketing (or SEM)? SEM, also known as cost-per-click (CPC) and pay-per-click (PPC), is a way to stand out from the crowd in a search engine result. Essentially, it’s advertising on a search result (see image below). Why use search engine marketing? Over half of consumers start their product research on a search engine and SEM is the guaranteed method to ensure your business is featured on the first page. Your ad is displayed by the search engines when a user types in the same keyword that we chose for your campaign. For instance, if you have an Italian restaurant in YourCity and you’re looking to put more butts in seats, you might do an SEM campaign for the keywords “Best Italian Food in YourCity”. So when someone looking for awesome Italian food near you types in those words into Google, Bing or Yahoo, your ad would show up. You only pay when someone clicks on the ad. You might think fancy marketing like this costs a ton of money. It doesn’t. But it does take some skills to figure out how to make it effective. That’s where Cork & Fork Digital Media comes in.
